In 1985, I was hired by the national capital's oldest and most renowned full-service public communications firm (John Doherty & Company Inc) after having successfully negotiated my first 'contract' as a freelance communications consultant. In 1988, a 'bad' merger (with another local communications firm) inevitably lead to the dissolution of both companies. That is when and why - in my desperate desire to provide continuity to the dozens of clients I had been servicing - I decided to start a "home-based business".
